Woman Accused of Killing Gambling- Addicted Husband

The Canadian police have recently made headway in a bizarre murder case involving spousal estrangement, an extra- marital affair, theft, murder, and a severe gambling addiction.

Maria Figliola, 49, has pleaded not guilty to hiring a hit- man to kill her husband Frank Figliola, Sr. Figliola Sr., who was a Dofasco steelworker, was 49 years old when his body was found with massive head injuries on a trail near Stoney Creek.

The couple had been estranged for years before Figliola's death, and wife Maria told police investigators a sad tale of her own history of theft, which she says was fueled by her late husband's acute gambling addiction. Online Golden Casino

In order to pay debts caused by her later husband's gambling addiction, Maria stole $400,000 from a former employer, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. However, racked by guilt, Maria confessed her crime to her supervisor and resigned.

"Uh ... five years ago I was an account manager. I worked really hard at my job too. And the gambling was really bad back then too. And I covered and I covered ... I couldn't take it anymore, so I went to a priest. I went to confession because I was [desperate] and I gave myself up and I resigned."

For the next two years, Figliola lived in fear of being arrested, and did not leave her house, thinking, "It could be any day. It could be any day that they [arrest me], but you know what? I did that and I admit to it."

Finally, on advice from her therapist to get on with her life, Figliola found a new job with a local book- keeper. However, this was not the end of her travails, since her husband again began gambling away her earnings.

"And when things got better again, he (Frank Sr.) started gambling again," she told the detectives in a taped interview.

"Over a two-or-three-year period, that's what it was. He rang up my credit cards. Uh, he used to write checks for cash. He used to take his pay and everything just went to -- I don't know where it went to -- what was gambling it on."

Maria Figliola, who has two grown children, agreed to allow a police- hired professional hypnotist to question her about the murder case. She said that she had independently planned to hire a telepathist to contact her dead husband. "I want to speak to my husband and I think I can do it. He might be able to help me," she said

Police who searched the Figliola residence found a diary, in which Frank Sr. recorded his wife's comings and goings, as well as a micro- cassette tape recording of a bitter fight with his wife about money. The tape made no mention of a gambling addiction or any gambling activity.
